Blogger Bug when using the MINIMA

Last few weeks it was raining mail (again) concerning a bug when using the Minima template.

After installing the Minima and republishing the blog people notice the first-post-body-text is pushed under the sidebar(s)!

True ... don't blame the template (dont' blame MIE and DON'T blame ME)!

This happens because of a Blogger software update where the post body is wrapped in a <div clear:both> tag!
The solution (or better: workaround): Disabling Float Alignment!

Blogger Dashboard > Settings > Formatting > Enable float alignment > No
Republish the Blog!

A Blogger Buzz note: "... suppressing the markup will result in layout problems when using left or right alignment for images."

A personal note: this can be avoided by embedding the <$BlogItemBody$> in a html table, as I did in my own templates.
But I chose to keep the Minima 3-column template code completely 'as is'!
A good choice, I think :-) (A 'clean' clone, so to speak!)

I currently use your Rounders3_original_3col template at www.atlanta575realestate.com and was curious if you can tell me how to get the bullet icons from the Right Sidebar to display in the LEft Sidebar.

If I use the list tag, it gives me a standard round bullet and not the same arrow bullet that displays in the right sidebar.

Please advise.

make your list an unordened list: embed the list in the UL-tags.

E-mailed ya but I guess you're busy, so that's cool. But I really need help with something that I'm guessing is actually TOTALLY easy to do--I just haven't been able to figure it out! Could really use your help and am hoping you might see it faster if I ask here!

Simply this: On your black Minima_original_3col template, how can I make that main (middle) content column FIXED?? What code change would I need to make? It's driving me nuts at the moment!

I really want to use this template, and it's almost there, just need that center column (where I post large size 400px images and embedded YouTube vids) to stop slipping into the right sidebar upon browser window resize (especially at lower screen resolutions, where this occurs very quickly). Thanks in advance! :)

I tried your rounders 3 column template, added all of my stuff and everything looked great. I use Firefox. I thought I'd take a look in IE and the right columns are all the ways at the bottom of the page. Any thoughts? It was fantastic on Firefox.

I still have a problem.
When i view my blog in IE @ 1024x768 the right sidebar pops under the middle frame.
The float alignment solution isn't working.
Can anyone look what i did wrong? Thanks.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm now using your 3-column Minima template at The Cranky Insomniac. I've made significant mods to it, including using your guide to making 3-column templates to make everything floating. I gave you a shout out at Three Column Layout.

Thanks!

Goode dag, Meneer Thur,

Why don't you answer in your blog as I am also interested in how to keep the main content width fixed. I changed to the 3 column minima, but changed back to 2 column when I saw the result on window resize. See Blogger for Dummies is now 3 column

Hi,
i have used the 3 column template but only recently noticed a problem when viewing in browsers other than firefox. in ie and msn the right column is shifted down to the bottom of the center column. my site is at presalesandevents.blogspot.com .... there are other gizmos and gadgets that i added previous to noticing so i dont know what may be causing this - or if it is inherent in the format.

Any help would be appreciated.
thank you

Hi,

Without having to look in the code I see three objects in the left sidebar are simply to wide:
the two video's and the EBAY ad.

Give all three a width="95%" and everything works as before!

Regards.

Hi Thur,

I also sent you an email. I guess you'll better receive my question here.

"First of all thank you for sharing your templates. I have used one of them for my blog my blog
I'm having problems with my comments. I use Haloscan.

When I click on the comments link, I get a link I've never choosed before (the yellow one) and I can't see the old comments. But if I right click (open link in a new window), I can see the old comments and the right haloscan template.
What am I doing bad?

Thanx in advance.

PS: Nice blog! Keep the good job."

Hello. I currently use your Minima template on 2 of my blogs.
chaosydisorder.blogspot.com
and
highdesertrunner.blogspot.com

For some reason, the middle and right columns of the runner blog are pushed down. Whereas the chaos blog is viewed correctly.

I can't seem to find the spot in the code that causes this. I have disabled the float alignment so I don't think that is the problem.

Can you help??

Makita said...

me again... I am sorry to bother you...

I also noticed that the text in the middle and right columns in my runner blog are centered whereas on my chaos blog, they are aligned on the left.

Please help. :)

Thur,

I think I will join the list of people who have been asking you questions about the alignment problem with Minima.

I am afraid that I am doing the same. I tried to read all your comments carefully but I have not been able to sort the issue for my blog (http://yoursvisually.blogspot.com). It has major aligment problems in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Right Side bar goes right at the bottom of the page :((( Firefox poses no issues at all.

I request you to please, please help me in sorting this issue.

Thank You.

This probably isn't related, but didn't know where else to post.

I just installed your 3col version of Minima Black last night. After some tweaking, got it looking the way I want except for one thing: the border box surrounding the header area stays full-screen width (or just about), even though what's inside of it does not require that size (in other words, it's not re-sizing dynamically). I have no idea what I've done to cause that. My site is JimMcKee.com. Suggestions? Thanks.

Dear Thurm

I tried to upload the minima-3col template to http://skankyjane.blogspot.com

(a Beta blog) and got this message:

We were unable to save your template
Please correct the error below, and submit your template again.
Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The content of elements must consist of well-formed character data or markup.

I also tried to add a new sidebar myself but - I guess I am still too blonde. I really want a three column template that is fully customisable so that I can put my own image in as a background and can have my own header etc.

Cheers

SJ xx

I switched to your Minima_original_3col template for my weblog. I've run into a problem which looks to be from using the Blogrolling service's link in the right sidebar. Waiting for the blogroll to display sometimes delays the display of the the main column. Changing the template so the main column was before the right sidebar seemed to eliminate the delay in displaying the main column content, but the right column displayed at the bottom of the page. I had already disabled float alignment. Is there a fix for this? I'd hate to give up either the three column format or the blogrolling service.

thur said...

Hi Terrence,

Yes, I can see the problem.
And of course, yes, there is a fix.
Though this fix means totally rebuilding the template.
In that case you have to use ABSOLUTE POSITIONING, instead of FLOATS.
See my post "3 Column Layout Blogger Template" (Sunday, September 11, 2005) below.
There is a template where the order is left-sidebar - main - right-sidebar.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

(Maybe more skilled people then me could easily solve this problem using the Minima css (the 'floats') ... I gave it a quick try ... but without succes. And I do not have more time at the moment!)

Regards,

Thur.
