About a Banner ...

Here's another 'How To ...' ... in case you want a banner-image in the Sodomy non sapiens (or in any other template):

[ Banner Image ] [ Background Image ]

Terms of (ab)Use: please, do not use (or link to) my images (templates are provided without images!). Thank you for being civilized.

Hi Thur,

Thanks for the nice and modulable templates

Just look at mine. I just change the colors and some small things but ... the distance/space between the main and the left and right columns ... don't exist anymore and i didn't change the code.

Do you have some answer to this technical problem ?

Happy New Year and thanks for your attention

steve

dear thur,

i am loyal fan of your designs. just a suggestion. i would like you to design a valid xhtml, css template with no image (text only) for blogger.

many would appreciate it as templates offered by blogger are not valid(mostly).

you do wonderful work Thur!

Dear Annie,

Thank you for your kind words.

Some thoughts on your suggestion:

Uhuhh, true: all pages generated with standard Blogger templates will not validate. (Caused by the Profile Container, the Blogger NavBar and others!)

A while ago I've tried to have all my own weblog-pages (generated with my own template) validate. Most pages did, and some still do, probably :-)

You know, it is rather easy to create a valid stylesheet and just a little bit harder to get a html page to validate.

But what for, to be honest?!?

Yes, naturally there are enough 'valid' reasons :-) but for most people having 'valid' pages is a goal in itself, I guess.
Being W3C proven doesn't guarantee browser compatibility or perfect and expected behaviour. It just doesn't.
(Browser Compatibility ... now THAT's an issue, right? (Although that is just the technical layer!) And Usability, Accessibility, etc.)

Concerning the Blogger templates: even when a MainPage validates this doesn't make each following ItemPage valid as well. And those templates ARE made (skillfully made) by the Best-In-Business. Those guys really are!

You did make me think, that's for sure. I will check all my templates and straighten them out, if and as much as possible.

(And, last part of your question, all my templates ARE 'text only'! I won't publish templates where the layout partly depends on images. Some self protection involved here, I guess :-) )

Regards, Thur.

Hello Thur, and thank u for your latest template. ive used it, and it comes out perfect in explorer however when i view my blog in mozilla it looks completely different- i have failed to figure out the problem. any suggestions?

Hello,

(I left a comment on your BEAUTIFUL page too.)

Look in the style section for this:

----------------------------
#banner {
padding: 10px;
margin-bottom: 10px;
border: 1px solid #666;
background: #333 url(http://static.flickr.com/41/88660923_e5ed11bf5f.jpg) repeat center center;
}

}

#content {
padding: 10px;
----------------------------
You see that } ???

There are two } characters, ending that #banner. You probably left it there after a copy/past action!

That's all.

Regards,

Yo, Thur, used your 3 column template to spice up my original blog. Thanks to you, it's looking much better now. I also tried to add a banner, but quite frankly couldn't get it working. I'll try again later, but I think I'm done for tonight after a few hours of nothing coding and playing on my blog. Thanks again!

you say this (Please note that the height of that box varies with the use or length of the Blog description!)

Is there a way we can specify the hight of the banner box?

Hi Thur,

Used your 3 column template...after altering it a bit .. its great... but i have one question for you..

I noticed this site Mandarindesgin.com and they have a concept called opacity.

I am using certain images as my background. I havent been able to set just the image to an opacity:0.25 when i set so .. the whole blog goes transparent....:(

Please help :) if its not too much of an issue for you... :)

Hi Thur -
Thank you so much for so generously making these great tempates available to us. If it's not too much trouble, I have a question I'm hoping you can answer. I'd like to replace the banner on your tb_b_20060107_black tempate and I'm not having luck figuring out how to do it. Can you help? I see a post of your about banners but there doesn't appear to be any text. Thanks much for your help!
Alex

Alex,

I can help if I know what the problem is.
If you want to replace the banner (I thought) the 'banner image'-page would be sufficient.
Apparently not.
So send me a mail, please.

Hi Thur,

Thanks for your templates, now my blog looks a lot better.

However, as Stone mentionned, it would be very convenient to set the header height to a specific number because in my case, the title is an image (I needed to do that to get the right font). Because of this, if I don't display the real text-entered title in Blogger, my header completely disappear!

Is there a way to work it out or do I really have to use the text-title instead of the banner image I created for it?

Thanks in advance

Thur,

I was shocked and surprised when I came across your blog, stocked with 3 column templates. What a wonderful thing!
So I immediately downloaded and started using template tb_b_20060122_black.dwt. I was very please at how easy it was too customize thanks to your documentation. I also noticed your tutorial on How to do a banner image. One issue though I do not see any banner statements in the code for - template tb_b_20060122_black.dwt. How easy is it to add? I've tried putting the code in a couple of different places. But I haven't been successful. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Blog is here: http://texasts1-160scale.blogspot.com/

If you would like to have a look!

Tom,

In the tb_b_20060122 the #banner is called #header!
Apart from the name the code is basically the same.

Good luck!

Thank you, thur...

It worked perfectly

I am using one of your templates, slightly tweaked, and I love it. I was wondering though, is it possible for the posts to be contained in individual boxes like the sidebars?

Thanks, Thur, for providing such great templates. I wanted a 3-column one and your tb_b_20060107_black was just perfect!
Also managed to add a banner image by following your instructions.

Thanks again!

Thur, I love this template! I have been using it for a few months and I have a question - would it be possible to make the banner image into a link? (ie - a link back to my main blog page). I'm not great with CSS but I've tried a few things and I'm not sure if it's possible.

Any help you can give will be very appreciated! My blog is http://cinemaknits.blogspot.com

Thanks!

Hi Thur, thanks so much for help with the template. It is much appreciated by technoduds such as myself. I somehow absolutely cannot get the banner image in though. I have left it in the template, but it doesnt show up on screen. I tried to get a friend who is more familiar with blogging to help, but with little luck.. Any advice? Have I messed something up? Also, the left border of the column on the right has disappeared. Sorry if i messed the code. honest truth is that i have NO CLUE what i am doing :P
