3 column Minima clone

For the 'Community' (and for the fun of it) I hand out a 3 column layout solution here. It's a simple showcase, nothing more. The structure is very basic, proven (has been for me, in quite some variations, a reliable structure for years; it isn't mine though!), easy to comprehent and easy to implement.
Like I said, this structure exists for years now, and I principally like it's flexibility: altering a few style-elements is enough to change it's behavior to almost anything one could ask for. Should be a nice 'toolbox' to examine/study/snitch.

Click this picture (or the title above) to enter the showcase:

And this is not strictly 'as is', so if you want to e-mail me for help, questions or comments, feel free to do so.

UPDATE (Saturday, July 09, 2005):

And as an extra: here's a MINIMA, the most used Blogger Template, in a 3 column layout - main section defined fluid.

On the Blogger Forum some Ninny once tried to bite my head off for this, calling this modified template 'a blond clone' :-)

Sigh!

I know there are more of these modified Minima's out there. They could well be better then this one, too. Still, since there are so many struggling with a third column I've decided to publish this template (again) anyway!

Like I said: this is just A 3 column solution. But (no reason not to be confident, once in a while :-) ) I believe this one has a few strong features:
1) here the paddings and margins are nicely balanced;
2) when altering the Minima in a 3 column layout one always seems to forget about that Header (very ugly, that is!) and here it stretches as it should.

Templates to be found in the sidebar!

Update (Friday, January 20, 2006):

Q: There is a big gap between the post title and the post body in the first post! HELP!

A: That's (most likely) caused by the (famous) "div clear:both".
See: Blogger Buzz: A Layout Solution!

Blogger Dashboard › Settings › Formatting › Enable float alignment = No.

(Allows image and text alignment options using the <div clear:both> tag. (Choose "No" if you are having post layout problems.))

Have a nice one!

When I try to use this template, the the text of my blog get pushed below the right sidebar.

When I try to manually write the code to convert to a three collumn blog. Inevitably either the sidebar or the main content sections gets pushed down.

Help. Any ideas?

I'm wondering how to migrate my current minima page (http://conservativeblogtherapy.blogspot.com) to the 3 column layout. Is it as simple as copying your template code into (over) my existing code?

Also, I don't seem to be able to get my page to display any wider than it is...when I increase the widths, the sidebar disappears. I assume the bigger "main" section is pushing it out. Any thoughts?

Hi Thur - thank you for the minima clone. Not too "blonde" for me!!! Exactly what I was looking for... Thanks also for the "div-clear" fix thingie (that's as techie as I get)... The post was moved way down the page under the header (just the first one) but I used your fix and it displays fine now.

I'm fiddling with the fonts and colors a little... moved the links. Kinda like a puzzle for those of us who don't know code. Anyway, thanks again. Que tenga un buen dia!

Dank U wel, meneer Thur, for the nice 3 column template, which I have installed for my blog Enviroman Says. Everything perfect except for one thing. The first post with a comic has its content way down away from the post title. I set "Enable float alignment" to No, but the problem persist. If someone can have a look at the blog and find a solution I'll be so greatful as I would hate to go back to the 2 column template. Dank U wel again and tot strak.

I've looked at your blog.
After you have disabled Float Alignment you must republish your blog.
For the style="clear:both;" is still there ... at the beginning of each post!

Dank U wel Meneer Thur, for the 3 column template. I have installed it for my blog Enviroman Says. Very nice, except for a problem. The content of the first post, an environmental comic, is way down below the post title. I have tried to correct it by going to settings and setting the "Enable float alignment" to no. The problem still persist. Is there any way to solve this troubling problem? I would really like to keep the 3 column template if this little problem can be solved. Dank U wel again.

Goode dag Meneer Thur,

Sorry for double posting the comment. My first comment was missing when I checked back. Anyway, thanks for the tip to republish. I have republished and the blog is fine now. Dank U wel.

Meneer Thur (and others),

Just wondering if others are experiencing the same thing. To fix this first post content down the page problem, I have set the "Enable float alignment" to no. After this, whenever I try to post, there is no Edit Html and Compose tabs for the post editor, and the post editor looks different from normal. A screenshot is available here Screenshot. This problem doesn't occur when I use IE to post. Anyone experiencing the same phenomena and knows of any way of solving it?

Hola Thur,

I have a glitch I can't figure out. On the post pages, my blog title (abroadincostarica.blogspot.com) is a link back to the home page (which is great), but the font changes to regular (it's bold on the home page). I'd like it to be bold there also.

On my husband's blog (haloboyle.blogspot.com), the blog title disappears altogether on the post pages. It's there - I can click where it should be and get taken back to the homepage, but I can't read it.

Where do I go to edit the font properties for the blog title on the post pages?

By the way, I've tried blogger help but have not gotten any help. I see others have asked this question also and not gotten any solutions. Can you help? Thank you!

Hi Thur...and thanks! I've used your Minima clone and but I adjusted the text to colours etc of the Minima Ochre (my original template) I linked you in my post of yesterday (Sunday 18th June)

http://owsblog.blogspot.com

I hope you agree that it looks ace! Ive aslo changed the column sizes a bit but overall the work was yours! :-)

One thing only that is still bothering me and it COULD be related to the above messages as well. I have adjusted the float alignment to no BUT I have added the collapsable post text from Blogger so that I can add "read rest of article" and it works, I added it yesterday as well BUT when you click on the link part of the RH sidebar shows at the top, the profile remains on the right.

Any ideas how I can get it all to remain in the sidebar?

Span Ows said...

sorted it myself..I'm so proud!!

well done re Argentina and good luck (you'll win!) against Portugal...footbal World Cup in case someone doesn't understand!

check my blog out because the adjustments to 'Ochre' are minimal and now everything works..THANKS...the problem wa ssomething to do with the Archives (I had tehm in a drop bx) but ahve reverted to 'normal' format and all is OK...

Hi thur,

Great job there with your templates... I love your templates... I downloaded them all Anyway I need your help here on an idea i'm working on. If it isn't much of a trouble here, could you come up with a black version for those with white background?

Anonymous said...

I love your "blue" template. But apparently it can't be used with blogger beta. Is this true? I haven't been able to find other templates that look this good and use the whole width of the screen like this one does. I'd really like to use this one, but don't want to give up the features of beta. Am I out of luck for now on this?

The 3 column Rounders3 template does not currently work. It has some xml/xhtml tag structure errors...

Hi Fiona,

Right-click on the download link (that is [download] or [.txt]) and choose 'Save Link As ...' (or 'Save Target As ...')

See my post "Installing a new template in Blogger"!

Regards,

Thur.

Err ... Fiona,

WHAT is not working???

Really: Right-click on the download link (that is [download] or [.txt]) and choose 'Save Link As ...' (or 'Save Target As ...')

Is there a problem with "Save Link As ..."?
Or is there a problem using the template on the Blogger Dashboard?
Well, when you are trying to install this template in BETA BLOGGER ... then right, that is NOT possible!

Regards,

Thur

Thur,

i did what you said with the right clicking and saving the target. i then open the page i saved but it is exactly the same as the picture of the template, not an actual template code. I copied and pasted into my classic blogger template editor anyway and it came out looking like this - www.wallitary-test.blogspot.com

Thanks
Fiona

Thanks, Thur, for your help! I just converted one of my blogs (http://hillcrestchurch.blogspot.com) to three-columns with your minima code. My ancestors are from the Netherlands, by the way, Ever met any Brands there?

Hi,
Just applied your 2 column minima at a test site. But I'm having the same problem as before whenever I try to implement anyone's instructions about adding a third column or downloading a 3 column template. I hope you will address it as clearly as you can for me.

PROBLEM:

It looks fine online. But when you go to the Layout Editor there is a problem. Either the column on your right almost disappears to the right or in this case, there is no third column at all, just the left sidebar. How can it have three columns online and only one in the Layout editor? What to do?
